Uva-ursi or bearberry is an herb that has been used from various
centuries to treat numerous body ailments.
Bearberry is naturalized in northern North America, Asia and Europe.
It has many species but the most common specie of bearberry to be found
different regions of world are alpine bearberry, red bearberry and common
bearberry (uva-ursi).
The trailing branches of this tree are woody and veiled with brown bark
which is about 1 to 2 feet tall.
The leaves are green, oval and leathery when touched and tapered towards
base.
The flowers are pinkish-white, dense and blooms in drooping clusters and
waxy textured.
The red coloured berries are edible and often harvested in autumn.
This evergreen shrub flourishes in North America including regions of
Europe, Iberian Peninsula, Siberia and the Himalayas.
The leaves and fruit is usually cultivated in autumn and the flowers
bloom in may and June.

Bearberry contains crystallized glucoside called arbutin,
methyl-arbutin, ericolin, ursone, Gallic acid, ellagic acid, tannin, and
leaves contain about 3% of ash. .
