western Asia. <BR> </P> <P>It has been used from historically in various things such as cosmetic, medicine and poison. Ancient kings used the poison derived from its seeds for various purposes.<BR></P> <H2>Plant Description</H2> <P>Atropa is perennial herb and often grow as fleshy rootstock to a height of 1.5 m. <BR></P> <P>The leaves are 18 cm long and ovate. The flowers are dull purple and bell shaped having green tinges and scented. <BR></P> <P>The fruit is black round shaped berries 1 cm in diameter. These berries are sweet and sometimes very toxic in nature. <BR></P> <H2>Cultivation</H2> <P>Atropa is often found in the parts of North America and in some countries it is naturalized as weed. <BR> </P> <P>It is usually thrives in moist places and shady location with limestone rich soils.<BR></P> <P>It is common plant of solanaceae family to which other plants like tomato, potato, eggplant, tobacco, and chili pepper also belongs. <BR></P> <H2>Parts Used</H2> <P>Roots, fruit and seeds.<BR> </P> <H2>Constituents </H2> <P>It contains toxic alkaloids called tropane and another toxic substance is extracted from it called atropine.<BR></P> <H2>Uses</H2> <P>Atropa belladonna was reputed to be used as cosmetic by ancient women.
