History
Raspberry is a savoury delicacy, a native to Europe and northern Asia.
It is been consumed as fruit and one of the favourite among the
consumers.
Plant Description
Raspberry is a perennial plant which is easy to grow and spreads all
over the field if unchecked.
The plant grows to a height of 1.5m to 2.5m, unbranched and bears large
pinnate leaves having five or seven leaflets.
During the late spring it produces small flowers about 1 cm in diameter
with five white petals.
The fruit is a red, juicy berry which sweet, but tart flavoured.
Cultivation
Raspberry is propagated easily on its own without any hardships. It
usually prefers open areas and thrives best in strong loamy soil. The
cultivation is done commercially for fruit raspberry.

Constituents
The main constituents of raspberry are crystallize fruit sugar, volatile
oil, pectin, citric and malic acid, mineral salts, colouring matter and
water.
Medicinal uses
- Raspberry is known possess invasive properties of astringent and
stimulant.
- The infusion of dried leaves boiled in water is used to relieve sore
mouth, mouth ulcers, and throat cancer.
- It believed that the raspberry leaves facilitates the childbirth and
helps in milk production in lactating mothers.
- Raspberry is thought to diminish the risk of cancer due to the
presence of anti-tumor and anti-cancer properties.
