traditional medicine in households.<BR> </P> <P>A native of India bhilwa is been considered as potent ayurveda herb and held high in esteem by sage charaka. <BR> The plant of bhilwa is found abundant in Bihar, Bengal, orissa and mountainous region of Himalaya. <BR> </P> <H2>Plant Description</H2> <P>Bhilwa is an average growing tree normally upto 10-15 m high and the bark is dark grey in colour which produces an irritating substance. <BR></P> <P>The leaves of this plant are 30-60 cm long and 12-30 cm wide, glabrous and pubescent.<BR></P> <P>The flowers produces are green-white and fruit is 2-3 m broad, ovate, smooth berry which turns black after ripening. <BR></P> <H2>Cultivation</H2> <P>Bhilwa is cultivated throughout India in the areas with hot weather such as Bengal, orissa, Bihar and some parts of Himalaya upto the height of 1000 metres. <BR> </P> <H2>Parts Used</H2> <P>Fruit, gum, oil<BR> </P> <H2>Constituents </H2> <P>Trans-isomers of ursuhenol (Naure 1960, 186, 389), anacardic acid, cardol, catechol, fixed oil, anacardol and semecarpol.<BR></P> <H2>Uses</H2> <P>Bhilwa is used both externally and internally for the wide range of diseases.
