Hounds tongue is an herbaceous plant naturalized in parts of Europe and
North America.
It is herbal plant that which is used as remedy for various diseases.
Hounds tongue belongs to genus cynoglossum which has 90 species
distributed widely all over the globe.
Mostly hounds tongue is found as weed.
Cynoglossum grows to a height of 45-60 cm and the flowers grow in
clusters, blue and pink in colour and 8 mm long.
The leaves are rough and soft from both sides, lanceolate, acute at the
base and slightly heart shaped.
Hounds tongue is annual and biennial and the red-purple flowers bloom in
the month of May and September.
The cultivation of this plant is widely found near waste lands, wet
places and hedges as weed.
Hounds tongue widely grows in meadows, roadsides and forest areas. It
requires full or partial shade to grow best.

pyrrolizidine alkaloids.
